PICASSO: THE MAN BEHIND THE GENIUS
Pablo
Picasso was born in Málaga in 1881 and died in the French commune of Mougins in
1973 and the age of 91, leaving us an artistic legacy of more than 16,000 works
according to the art critic and collector Christian Zervos, being one of the
most influential painters of all time. Curretnly, his paintings are being shown in the
most relevant museums, such the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid or the Musée
Picasso in Paris. However, have you ever wondered what is behind his
masterpieces like La Vie (1903), Guernica (1937), Les Demoiselles d´Avignon (1907) or The Old Guitarrist (1904)? All of this, has its answer in the
second season of the series Genius:
Picasso launched by National Geographic, where the Spanish actor Antonio
Banderas plays the title role of it. There, we can observe the beginnings of
his artistic career, the many women who inspired him and accompanied him, as
well the dramatic moments that marked his life that were later reflected in his
works, such as the Guernica, one of
my favourite paintings of mine, created after the bombing of this city by the
Nazi Germany in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. Do not miss the series if
you want to know more about the life of this genius Spanish painter and if you
have any chance to visit any of his works, take advantage of it to enjoy his
magnificent artistic legacy.
