A BRAND NEW WORLD-CLASS ART BIENNAL: RIBOCA
Yesterday,
I had the opportunity to attend the Professional Review & Opening of the
first edition of the Riga International Biennal of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA)
and I have to admit that I was completely astonished by the level of it, not
only because of the quality of the artists and their works such as the piece Allegory of the Painted Woman by Alexis
Blake, but also of the magnificent organisation of the event. The Riga Biennal
Foundation was created two years ago by Agniya Mirgorodskaya, Emelyan Zakharov
and Aleksandrs Gafins with the aim to to develop a new global platform for international and Baltic artists,
to promote contemporary art and provide educational and community support
within the region, as well as to increase artistic engagement between the
Baltic region and the rest of the world (RIBOCA, 2016). This year, they
launched their first edition under the motto Everything was Forever until it was no more and will run from 2nd
June until 28th October in several venues of the city and its
surroundings, where artists from around the globe will come to present and show
their creations. Do not hesitate to come and enjoy the art of Latvia, the
Baltics, Europe and the world!
