LATVIA TO LEAD NORDIC AND BALTIC ARTS

An example of the enormous Art Noveau Heritage in Riga (Latvia)

Latvia, a small country situated in a strategical point of the world, between Europe and Asia, therefore it is the open door of them. Through history the country has been an important trading post since the Middle Ages (RIBOCA, 2016). Recently after its independence, Latvia has been growing incredibly becoming a significant industrial and now with the creation next year of RIBOCA,  Riga, the capital of the country, it will set up a new global platform for international and Baltic artists, to promote contemporary art and provide educational and community support within the region, as well as to increase artistic engagement between the Baltic region and the rest of the world (RIBOCA, 2016). “The inaugural edition of the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA), a major biannual event in Latvia, will launch in June 2018.
With a European focus and a strong regional profile, RIBOCA is conceived as a dynamic new site of artistic experimentation and knowledge production which will offer a barometer of current social, political and economic issues filtered through artistic practices. RIBOCA will create new opportunities for leading international and regional artists to engage with the rich cultural, historical and socio-political context of Riga, Latvia and its geographic surrounds. The biennial will be manifested at various points throughout the city, with a full programme and locations to be announced.
RIBOCA is a major initiative of the Riga Biennial Foundation, its commissioning body. Founder and Director of the Riga Biennial Foundation Agniya Mirgorodskaya developed RIBOCA as new global platform for international and Baltic artists to promote contemporary art and provide educational and community support within the region, and to increase artistic engagement between the Baltic region and the rest of the world. For each edition of the biennial, a significant proportion of the commissioned and participating artists were born in, or live and work in, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, a territory which still remains relatively unexplored despite its prolific artistic production.
The Riga Biennial Foundation has appointed globally recognised, Greek-born curator Katerina Gregos as Chief Curator of RIBOCA 2018. The curatorial concept for the first edition of the biennial will be announced in spring 2017”

CUANDO EL CINE NO ES EL PROTAGONISTA DE LOS ÓSCAR

Inevitablemente, los comentarios de la última ceremonia de los Óscar han quedado ligados a la lamentable situación que vivimos entre Will Smith  y Chris Rock. El presentador se burló de la alopecia de su mujer Janet Pinkett Smith y el intérprete le propinó una bofetada que sonó en todo el auditorio, dejando perplejos a los asistentes, los académicos de Hollywood y a millones de espectadores. Poco después, Smith se alzaba  con el galardón al mejor actor por su actuación en  King Richard . Sin embargo, el  incidente había empañado por completo su victoria, dejando una mancha en su, hasta ahora,  impecable carrera. Ni las burlas de Rock —que previamente también había arremetido contra Penélope Cruz con un comentario machista—, ni la reacción violenta de Smith han de tener cabida en Hollywood. LOS GOYA RECUPERAN SU BRILLO EN VALENCIA

La alfombra roja relució más que nunca en los pasados premios Goya, que se celebraron este sábado en el Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofía en Valencia. Por primera vez en sus treinta y seis años de historia, el galardón más preciado del cine español otorgó el Goya Internacional, que recayó en la actriz australiana Cate Blanchett por su inigualable contribución al cine como arte (valiéndole entre otros dos Oscar). Recibió el premio de mano de Pedro Almodóvar, con quién trabajará en su próximo proyecto, y de Penélope Cruz. Por otro lado,  El buen patrón  se ha alzó con los principales galardones de la noche, incluyendo el de mejor película, mejor dirección y guión para Fernando León de Aranoa, además de mejor actor protagonista para Javier Bardem. Mientras que los cuatro españoles nominados a los Oscar recibieron el apoyo unánime del sector para luchar por traer otro éxito más para nuestro cine. En definitiva, una noche para el recuperar el brillo tras el parón por la pandemia. PAVARE

EL ARTISTA RICKY VAN BROEKHOVEN HACE BAILAR EL SONIDO

El artista Ricky Van Broekhoven acaba de sorprender al mundo al hacer bailar el sonido. Este artista siempre ha estado obsesionado por introducir nuevas sensaciones a través de sus obras, centrado sus trabajos a través de la intersección del arte, el diseño y la música, con la pretensión de convertir el sonido en algo tangible. Sin embargo, no ha sido el único artista que ha soñado con esto, ya que como ya enunció Wassily Kandinsky en su día para describir los colores de la música: “ Los violines, los profundos tonos de los contrabajos, y muy especialmente los instrumentos de viento personificaban entonces para mí toda la fuerza de las horas del crepúsculo. Vi todos mis colores en mi mente, estaban ante mis ojos. Líneas salvajes, casi enloquecidas se dibujaron frente a mí ” (Kandinsky). No obstante, Van Broekhoven ha ido un paso más allá gracias a su última creación Fluid Resonance (2017), en donde varios sensores permiten manipular un líquido a través de ondas sonor
